At the School Board Meeting of January 18, 2023, School Board Member Roberto J. Alonso proffered agenda item H-3, directing the Superintendent of Schools to explore the feasibility of developing and implementing a plan of action to work in conjunction with the office of the State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle to develop training content directed to all school personnel at our schools to raise awareness about human trafficking in our schools and community.
This plan of action would include: coordinating meetings with the State Attorney’s Office to review, discuss and analyze current policies, initiatives, curriculum, resources, and training materials; developing in conjunction with the State Attorney’s Office and Human Capital Management training content to deliver to Miami-Dade County Public Schools personnel on a voluntary basis; creating a schedule for voluntary trainings to include the availability of content throughout the year for Miami-Dade County Public Schools personnel during professional development as well as during other voluntary trainings.
Mr. Alonso also worked with the Superintendent, the Chief of Police, and the State Attorney’s Office to assign a School Board officer to the Human Trafficking Task Force. This officer will bring a greater level of partnership in an effort to protect all students.
Agenda item H-3 was unanimously supported by the Board. A report regarding the requested plan of action will be provided to the School Board on or before April 12, 2023.
