Miami, FL – South Florida PBS (WPBT, WXEL, and Health Channel) is excited to announce the sixth season of film-maker premiering on Tuesday, May 21st at 7:30 PM on WPBT2 and Thursday, May 23rd at 5:30 PM on WXEL. Featuring a dynamic mix of narrative and documentary films, this new season showcases 9 films over 5 episodes, unveiling stories that capture the essence of the South Florida community, delving into a variety of themes, enriching our understanding of ourselves and those around us.
“We are excited to kick off the sixth season of film-maker, celebrating the wide array of filmmaking talent across Florida. This season captures filmmakers at different points in their careers and from diverse backgrounds, reflecting the broad spectrum of our viewership. South Florida PBS will showcase these films to more than 6.5 million viewers. The series will also be available online and proposed for national distribution, as in past seasons, which expands the reach for these filmmakers significantly,” said President and CEO of South Florida PBS, Dolores Fernandez Alonso.
Season 6 premieres with highlights of the South Florida filmmaking scene, with short narrative film, “After Mountains” and short documentary film, “Gearheads.” Hear from the filmmakers themselves as they reflect on the inspiration behind their works and approaches to storytelling.
After Mountains – TV G
“After Mountains” is the story of the young Ellie, who meets Noah, another kid of her age, while visiting her sick grandpa at the hospital with her mom. Through a child’s eyes, this short will explore the themes of grief, as well as intergenerational conflicts and misunderstandings that can occur while facing a family crisis.

Gearheads – TV G
Gearheads follows the story of Browner Sound, a company that has been producing high-quality audio gear for over 10 years. Through interviews and conversations with the founders, we get an inside look into the development process and the passion of the people behind the product. Gearheads offers an engaging story of how an idea became a reality, and how the business has grown to become what it is today. This story is an inspiring and informative look at a company that puts passion and craftsmanship into every product.

Open Dialogues Queer Allies features the stories and lived experiences of people who identify as LGBTQ+ (Queer) and those who love and support them. Through deeply moving interviews and performances that represent a diverse range of allyship perspectives, Queer Allies illustrates the power of human empathy to change lives. With a performance by Dance Now! Miami and a reading by Terry Dyer from his book, “Letters to a Gay Black Boy.”
