Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre has announced The Great Movie Ride Film Series, presented by Coral Gables Commissioner Kirk Menendez through the Kirk and Lydia Menendez Family Endowment.
The free film series will first be available to Coral Gables residents and Actors’ Playhouse subscribers, and then become available to all Miami-Dade County residents. Tickets will be released three weeks prior to each film screening and can be reserved at www.actorsplayhouse.org.
Hailing from a family of film lovers who owned several movie houses in Cuba from the 1920s to the 1940s, Commissioner Menendez is aiming to bring the memories he experienced as a child watching movies at the Miracle Theatre to the residents of Coral Gables.
“I wish to take all generations of residents on a great movie ride back to a time when movies were so beloved that there would be a line of moviegoers wrapped around a city block waiting to see and be in awe of those classic blockbuster movies that made us dream, made us cheer and made us believe that everything is possible,” Commissioner Kirk Menendez said.
“It is such a thrill to celebrate our 35th anniversary season with this action-packed film series that connects the Miracle Theatre’s beloved cinema past with its present state as a performing arts center,” said Barbara S. Stein, Actors’ Playhouse executive producing director. “We are extremely grateful to Commissioner Menendez and his family for providing this fabulous and free opportunity to our community.”
Tickets for The Great Movie Ride Film Series will available to reserve three weeks before each film to Coral Gables residents and subscribers of Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. Two weeks before each film, tickets will open up to all Miami-Dade County residents. The Great Movie Ride Film Series will premiere in December with the following films being shown during this first installment of the series:
Star Wars: A New Hope — Sunday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m.
Raiders of the Lost Ark — Sunday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m.
Avengers: Endgame — Sunday, Apr. 30, at 5 p.m.
Back to the Future — Sunday, Aug. 13, at 5 p.m.
