Miami Lighthouse for the Blind hosts back-to-school event
Students at Keys Gate Charter High gather in front of Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program Mobile Eye Clinic.

Miami Lighthouse for the Blind recently hosted a back-to-school event at Keys Gate Charter High to address the need for eye health equity.

Students received eye screenings by Sight For Kids, a partnership between Johnson & Johnson Vision and Lions Clubs International Foundation. Comprehensive eye examinations and prescription glasses were provided by Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program, a division of Miami Lighthouse for the Blind. Eye services were followed by a school supplies giveaway and celebration assembly program.

Through collaboration, Miami Lighthouse for the Blind’s Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program and Sight For Kids aim to provide quality, comprehensive eye-health services for students in low-income and underserved communities across Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.

Since 1992, Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program has provided no cost comprehensive eye examinations to over 190,000 students, while Sight For Kids has conducted eye screenings for over 48 million children since 2002. These combined efforts continue to make a profound impact on children’s vision health within the community.
