The Chlorine Institute issued its prestigious 2018 Peter M. Mayo Award to Robin Bolte at their annual meeting in Tampa. Bolte is Manager of Regulatory Affairs for Allied Universal Corporation in Doral.
In 2004, The Chlorine Institute (CI) created the award to recognize an individual for service and safety leadership in the chlorine industry. Sponsored by CI’s board of directors, the award is a living memorial to Peter M. Mayo, a leader in the industry, a strong supporter of safety excellence, and an active participant in CI for 30 years.
CI Chairman Jim Palmer said Ms. Bolte was selected to receive the institute’s highest award because she combines a “roll-up-your-sleeves and get the job done attitude with a sharp mind and a fierce commitment to safety.” Palmer is also president and CEO of Allied Universal.
At CI, Bolte served on the Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS) Issue Team since its inception in 2005, including stints as Chairperson and Vice Chair. For two decades she served on or led numerous task groups and packager and bleach councils, focusing on the overall scientific improvement of regulations.
Typically these regulations reflect the chlor-alkali industry’s relationship with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Railroad Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, among other agencies and organizations.
Bolte plays a critical leadership role in regulatory affairs and compliance for Allied Universal, helping to maintain the company’s strong safety record. She joined the company as a paralegal in 1995, rising to Safety Manager, and later as Regulatory Affairs Manager.
Bolte earned a Masters of Science degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the University of North Carolina and received the Manager of Environmental Safety and Health Certificate from North Carolina State University.”
In presenting the award, Palmer said, “Robin has a substantial track record of industry leadership, active engagement in The Chlorine Institute and a passion for safety,” precisely the attributes that the Peter M. Mayo award seeks to honor.
The Chlorine Institute exists to support the chlor-alkali industry in advancing safe, secure, environmentally compatible and sustainable production, distribution and use of its missions chemicals: chlorine, sodium and potassium hydroxides, sodium hypochlorite, the distribution of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and the distribution and use of hydrogen chloride.
