The Center Will be Vibrantly Decorated with Dia de los Muertos-Themed Decorations, Oct. 20–Nov. 3
What/Who:
Marigolds, music and memories! The community is invited to CityPlace Doral’s Fourth Annual Day of the Dead “Día de los Muertos” Celebration. Dia de los Muertos is believed to be the one day of the year that the souls of past ancestors reunite with the living.
Starting Monday, Oct. 20, CityPlace Doral will be vibrantly decorated with colorful Dia de Los Muertos-themed décor through Nov. 3, recognizing this culturally rich Latin American tradition. The installation will culminate with a free community event on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Designed by Alorè Event Firm’s Creative Director Anna Noriega, CityPlace Doral will come alive with vibrant colors, beautiful floral installations and unique photo opportunities that will blend the traditional Día de los Muertos decorations, including Papel picado, wooden calaveras (sugar skulls), agave pottery and Marigolds. Deeply rooted in tradition, the decorations and colors hold rich cultural significance and pay homage to ancient heritage.
Upon entering the Center, guests will be welcomed by draping Papel picado and sugar skulls throughout the boulevard and Fountain Plaza. An oversized Papel picado bench will be used as a backdrop for photo opportunities.
The main Day of the Dead event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. Guests will celebrate life with a center-wide processional with performances by folkloric dancers, stilt walkers, mariachis and oversized calavera and Catrina puppets by RECERA. The Baila Conmigo Kids Dance School will host a special youth performance. Families can enjoy complimentary face painting, food sampling from CityPlace Doral’s restaurants and more. Guests can also shop and stroll the “El Mercado” night market, a marketplace for people and their pets. The event will be emceed by Comedian Rafael Leidenz, who will pay a special tribute with an impersonation of Mexican singer Juan Gabriel.
Guests and pets are encouraged to dress in the Day of the Dead theme.
Throughout the installation, visitors are encouraged to take festive photos or snap a selfie and tag @CityPlaceDoral for a chance to be featured on the Center’s social media.
CityPlace Live!, the Center’s live entertainment series, takes place Saturdays, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Fountain Plaza. In partnership with RECREA and Rumba Miami, this weekly celebration brings the party to life with various themed live music, dancing and engaging activities for the entire family.
Additionally, each Sunday from 2 to 10 p.m., CityPlace Doral hosts CityPlace Market, where the community is invited to stroll and shop local vendors at the Fountain Plaza featuring handmade goods, sweet treats, street food and more.
