The City of Doral has been honored for the seventh consecutive year as a 2016 Playful City USA Community for its continuous commitment to supporting play. Doral’s priority is increasing the quantity and quality of play in our community.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary, KaBOOM! selected Doral for its dedication to play through its outstanding programming for people of all ages and abilities. KaBoom! also praised the joint use agreements with local schools that further enhance the accessibility of programs and facilities to the community.
The City of Doral is a role model for other communities’ parks programs and has successfully proven that it is indeed a “Great Place to Play”.
“With the support from the Council and Administration, prioritizing play continues with exciting new projects like Doral Legacy Park, opening this September, as well as Doral Glades Park and the Aquatic Facility, soon to follow,” said Barbara Hernandez, Parks and Recreation Director.
The City looks forward to its annual “Play Day” event later this year at Doral Meadow Park. Doral will celebrate its accomplishment for a seventh year with outdoor games, arts and crafts, face painters and live performances. More than 2,000 people participated at this popular event last year.
“We are thrilled to recognize these communities that have invested their time and efforts to put kids first,” said KaBOOM! CEO James Siegal. “Balanced and active play is crucial to the well-being of kids and the communities that they thrive in.” KaBOOM!, is a national non-profit dedicated to saving play and helping local governments address the play deficit and it is through mayors, city council members, parks and recreation departments, school districts and community leaders that the program succeeds in benefitting children
