As the legislative session prepared to enter its final week, the Mayor and Council of the City of Doral passed a resolution to support continued funding for the Florida Stroke Registry. The 2019 bipartisan appropriation was sponsored by Senator Lauren Book (D-Plantation) and Representative Ana Maria Rodriguez (R-Doral).
The Florida Stroke Registry is a University of Miami database that collects data from hospitals throughout the state in order to better understand stroke causes, treatment, and prevention. There are currently 80 hospitals from around the state that are voluntarily enrolled in the registry, and the information collected so far has already enabled UM and the Florida Stroke Registry to be the first to provide data-driven perspectives of stroke disparities based on race, gender, and geographic location.
The Registry’s online portal provides participating healthcare professionals with an abundance of information catered specifically to their needs. These include access to educational tools and the latest research and publications related to strokes as well as targeted annual reports for each hospital. These annual reports allow healthcare professionals insight into their quality of care according to various performance and data metrics collected by the Registry, which in turn gives them the opportunity to constantly improve the care given to patients.
In short, this registry is saving lives.
During the final week of the legislative session, make sure to contact your legislator to stress the importance of continued funding for the Florida Stroke Registry via Senate Local Funding Request 1636 and House Bill 4485.
