FPL Volunteers Install Smoke Detectors in 76 Hialeah Homes

Sound the Alarm American Red Cross, Hialeah – Saturday, March 7

On Saturday, March 7, 28 Florida Power & Light Company volunteers worked alongside the American Red Cross to install smoke detectors in 76 Hialeah homes to lower the number of fire-and burn-related injuries. The American Red Cross is one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations dedicated to providing emergency assistance, disaster relief, and disaster preparedness education. These volunteer efforts will support its mission by helping hundreds of residents prepare for a potential emergency in their homes.

This was one of 23 volunteer projects that are part of FPL’s annual Power to Care Week, that began on March 2. During the week, employees tackled community projects in 13 counties throughout FPL’s service area. Now in its 12th year, the initiative has grown from one day to an entire week with more than 1,000 volunteers and their families rolling up their sleeves to improve their communities.
