Annual Gala for A Safe Haven touches hearts and over-delivers on fun

A Safe Haven for Newborns Gala chalked up another great success October 19 at the Intercontinental Hotel Miami with CBS Miami Channel 4 Anchor Laura Pastrana who served as guest emcee; and guest Ambassador, Florida State Senator Rene Garcia, who is also a member of the organization’s board of directors.

Board Member Dr. Jaime Fernandez once again added to the excitement during opening reception, making announcements and encouraging support for the many options to spend money on the evening’s events that ranged form a wine raffle to buying-sight-unseen Kendra Scott Jewelry – which always sells out. Following a delicious dinner, the crowd danced the night away to Tartara Band, all making for a magical evening.

Thanks to support from Safe Haven’s presenting sponsor, The Celia Lipton Farris & Victor W. Farris Foundation, and countless other donors, the organization founded by CEO Nick Silverio has saved the lives of 315 babies to date.

Silverio, who has never taken a salary, has lots of volunteers who also deserve credit for supporting his work and the mission such as his amazing volunteers including Norris Perez, who has chaired the auction year after year, and others such as Cindy Delgado, Ann McCormick, Odalys Quesada, Henry Delgado, Efrain Sora, and Gina Perez.

Miami’s Community Newspapers was delighted to participate as the Gala’s Media/ PR sponsor and enjoy the evening with other community leaders. Look for more coverage of the event in an upcoming issue.

Speaking of fun events, the Doral Food & Wine Festival has been postponed to weekend of March 21, 2020. It seems November had way too many events, so the wise decision was made to move it to spring.

So that frees us up for several charity events including the Alzheimer’s Walk on Nov. 16 at Museum Park. Right after that, on Nov. 19, the Coral Gables Woman’s Club will hold another Gringo Bingo party at Clutch Burger in the Gables to benefit Chapman Partnership from 7 to 9 p.m., followed by a Dec. 3 Gringo Bingo for the Junior Orange Bowl Festival events.

Until next time, keep making each day count.
