No where better to hear it than from the actual source, Andreina Kissane Director of Ccucu Gall Art – The Brickell Key Gallery, aka B K G and writer of the Curator’s Desk. Andreina shares firsthand how passion, business and creativity merged to form a spectacular art venue.
The time is now. Miami’s cultural landscape continues to evolve and Brickell Key is about to welcome an extraordinary artistic presence. B K G is thrilled to announce its opening on March 13th with a special solo exhibition by Master Artist Ricardo García, marking the arrival of a remarkable talent in contemporary art. This will be a special and beautiful event at this beautiful Island Gallery.
The Curator’s Desk had the pleasure to meet with artist Ricardo García, whose thoughtful approach to craftsmanship and artistic heritage reveals a deep reverence for art history combined with a bold contemporary vision.
Ricardo García (Havana, Cuba, 1961) is a Cuban-born visual artist whose artistic and professional development took place in Caracas, Venezuela, where he graduated from the Hans Neumann Institute of Design. Over the years, García has developed an impressive international career, exhibiting his work in Germany, Venezuela and the United States.
A defining milestone in his career came when he received the Armando Reverón Award in Visual Arts at the prestigious Arturo Michelena Salon in Valencia, Venezuela, one of the country’s most respected recognitions in the visual arts. This honor celebrated García’s exceptional ability to merge Renaissance techniques with contemporary materials, positioning him as a master artist whose work bridges centuries of artistic tradition.
At the heart of García’s practice lies a profound dialogue with the Old Masters. Working primarily on wooden panels (tavola), he constructs layered compositions reminiscent of historical retables and sacred architectural structures. His surfaces are meticulously prepared with refined stucco applications that create luminosity and depth. Garcia does this while incorporating materials such as jute canvas, gold leaf, perforations, steel elements, sanguine, charcoal, and natural pigments.
In keeping with Renaissance traditions, García transfers preliminary drawings onto the final surface through methods reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael. Through this disciplined process, he reinterprets historical craftsmanship through a contemporary lens, transforming centuries-old techniques into powerful modern works of art. The result is a body of work that evokes both spiritual architecture and contemporary abstraction, which invites viewers to contemplate the relationship between tradition, structure and innovation. This solo exhibition at B K G will run from March 19th through June, offering collectors, residents, and visitors a rare opportunity to experience the work of a recognized master artist whose practice connects Renaissance mastery with contemporary artistic exploration.
