Homestead welcomed Councilmember Erica G. Ávila to the City Council on Feb. 27. She took the Oath of Office administered by her husband, Arnold Andrew Perez. Councilmember Ávila was appointed to fill Council Seat No. 5 in accordance with the city charter’s procedure for vacancy. She will hold the seat until the city’s regularly scheduled election in November 2021. Previous to her appointment, Councilmember Ávila was known as an active member of the Homestead community, immediate past president of the Homestead Kiwanis, and a mortgage services professional.
