The Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, one of South Florida’s most active community-service organizations, recently celebrated its new meeting location, Portofino Coal Fired Pizza, 650 NE 22 Terr. in Homestead.
Homestead Mayor Steven D. Losner was the guest speaker at the in new location kickoff.
The club, which previously held its weekly luncheon meetings on Wednesdays, will have exclusive use of the Portofino dining room on Tuesdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Portofino will continue to serve lunch at the bar or at its outdoor seating during those times.
“As our club continues to grow and serve the children of South Dade, we needed a larger facility with a wide variety of food options,” said Erica Ávila, past president of the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade and current Lt. Governor for Division 26 of the Florida District of Kiwanis. “Portofino, one of our area’s most popular restaurants, fits the bill.”
Portofino General Manager Charlie Fernandez was excited about being the new home to Kiwanis.
“Having someone like Kiwanis come here on a regular basis is mutually beneficial,” Fernandez said. “We get to serve an organization that focuses on helping kids — which helps everyone in our community. At the same time, we get exposure for our restaurant to this growing organization. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
