Maxwell chambers biographyMaxwell B. Chambers migrated to the United States from the hills of Clarendon, Jamaica, and has been a resident of the beautiful City of Miramar since 2007. Born to a single mother he learnt the meaning of hard work and honesty as he watched her toil to take care of his 2 siblings and himself. In order to make ends meet she eventually migrated to the United States and Maxwell along with his siblings were able to join her when he was 18 years old. He owned and operated his own custom-cabinet business for 17 years. Maxwell is the father of 5 children, Max Jr., Renea, Zach, Meia, and Hailey.

He was first elected to office in 2015 as Commissioner in the City of Miramar, served as Vice Mayor in 2016-2017 and was re-elected in March 2017. He is currently serving a 4-year term. He is a community activist who has fought against red light cameras and has supported not-for-profits that assist women and children in need.

Commissioner Chambers developed the Community First Plus One program to assist residents with paying utility bills. It encourages residents and non-residents to donate $1 or more which goes into a special fund to assist Miramar residents who fall on hardship to get back on their feet. The loveDROP program is for those struggling to pay their water bill.

The main goal of LoveDROP is to prevent water disconnection for the residents of Miramar.

This program includes extended payment plans, financial literacy support, community resources and other incentives.

Commissioner Chambers believes that each child should have the privilege of higher education no matter what their economic status, race or background is. He frequently spearheads and finances college workshops that are geared toward helping those with below average GPA.

Residents know they can call on him to assist those dealing with residential and business violations and permits. They know he will do all he can to help to alleviate the stress they have to face in these situations. He has also found ways to assist Miramar businesses suffering in this challenging economy.

Maxwell is a volunteer in the KAPOW Program (Kids and the Power of Work) and a Board member of PAL (Police Athletic League). PAL is the only organization that provides low cost year round sports activities for the children who reside in Miramar.

Recently, he responded to the plight of the Bahamian people and has made several trips to the Bahamas carrying the much needed supplies for those affected.
