During her time as Commissioner of District 8, Danielle Cohen Higgins has set the standard for great, consistent leadership. She continues to be a leader on important issues: she’s concerned about housing affordability and wages in our community. That’s why Commissioner Cohen Higgins says she is working to implement policies that promote affordability and championing smart development that makes people more important than profits.
Transportation is another key focus for District 8 Commissioner Cohen Higgins. She’s been worried about traffic on our neighborhood roads and on the highways. That’s why Commissioner Cohen Higgins is seeking solutions that are innovative on easing traffic and connecting South Dade to the rail corridor.
On sustainability, she has also shown leadership: Commissioner Cohen Higgins has been interested in addressing rising sea levels and how it threatens the quality of life throughout Miami-Dade County. The quality of our water, overdevelopment and pollution of all types is a focus of her agenda. She is determined to return the County’s focus to these issues and more.
The daughter of Jamaican immigrants who came to the United States in search of better opportunities, Commissioner Cohen Higgins was born at Jackson Memorial Hospital and spent part of her early years living in what is now a Section 8 housing complex called Milton Manors.
Today, Commissioner Cohen Higgins is a mother, wife, attorney and small business owner proudly representing District 8 on the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners. We want her to continue leading and recommend her again to the County Commission’s District 8 seat.
