New theater partnership make arts more accessible to young audiences
Miami Theater Center (MTC) and Miami Children’s Theater (MCT) form partnership to bring live theater to young audiences.

Miami Theater Center (MTC) and Miami Children’s Theater (MCT) recently announced a new partnership.

While their acronyms may be confusing, MTC and MCT are both clear that they share one goal, which is to make exceptional live performances accessible to all kids and families.

With a shared dedication to inclusiveness and a belief that the arts elevate the soul of a child, the alliance has created a permanent presence for MCT in Miami Shores at MTC’s 330-seat theater. Featuring both performance and rehearsal space, MTC is ideal for children throughout northern Miami-Dade County, Miami Shores, Miami Beach and the Design District.

“We are thrilled to partner with smart, compassionate and creative people that share our vision,” said Tim Fath, director of Miami Childrens Theater. “Over the past two months, MTC’s executive director, Giselle Kovac, and MTC’s director of Education and Family Programming, Victoria Row-Traster, and I held productive and fruitful meetings to make this partnership happen.

“While we will continue to nurture our theater programs at Pinecrest Gardens and the Alper Jewish Community Center in Kendall, being able to offer a dedicated space at the Miami Theater Center for residents in the northern part of the county is simply sublime,” Fath added.

There alreadyare two main stage Musical Theater productions and a summer camp in the works for MTC in Miami Shores. Additionally, MCT has selected the celebrated duo, Monica and Jovanni Gagerro, to direct MCT’s first musical at Miami Theater Center. Auditions for Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will be held in mid-January.

“We are delighted to join forces with Miami Children’s Theater in offering more opportunities for children in Miami-Dade County to express themselves through musical theater,” Kovac added. “As South Florida’s only venue dedicated to Theater for Young Audiences, we are excited to be working with Tim [Fath], who was named one of the nation’s top Theater Educators in America by The Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University.”

Established in 1996, Miami Childrens Theater’s mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for young artists to learn, create and most importantly, become good citizens.

MCT believes the arts can bridge all divides. To that end MCT points to its record of not once denying a child admittance to the programs over financial or cultural reasons. For more information, visit miamichildrenstheater.biz.
