Ever had ice cream flavored after Miami’s most well-known and sought after delicacies? If the answer is no, get ready to remedy your sweet tooth at Coral Gables’ newest ice cream shop – Sweet Melody Ice Cream Co.
The ice cream shop, known for its ability to make delicious, unforgettable flavors that marry comfort with creativity, will now hold two locations — its new Coral Gables location at 3814 SW Eighth St., Coral Gables, FL 33134, and its first location, “La Ventanita,” at 15224 SW 72 St., Miami, FL 33193.
Sweet Melody’s story began when its owner, Mike Romeu, bought a $50 lime green ice cream maker at Brandsmart in 2014. It sat untouched for a year and a half, at first in a storage unit while he was moving homes, and then in the corner of the garage, still in its box. After losing his job, as if by serendipity, the ice cream maker found its way back into his life.
“Rinsing off that ice cream maker and turning it on changed my life forever,” said Mike Romeu, CEO and owner of Sweet Melody. “Since then, I have strived to make the best ice cream you will ever try. I named the shop after the person I love most in this world, my daughter, Melody. This way, I know we will always make our ice cream the best it can possibly be.”
Sweet Melody prides itself in presenting familiar (and not so familiar) flavors in a whimsical and creative way, telling its story one pint at a time by using only the finest ingredients.
The shop features a variety of flavor offerings: signature, seasonal, popular, zodiac, sorbets and dairy-free options, and even ice cream sandwiches to guarantee every craving is satisfied.
Inspired heavily by Miami and the city’s cultural influence, guests can try eclectic and delicious ice cream flavors like “Bo & Jo’s Guava Cream Cheese,” an ode to Mike’s childhood, a snack that his grandmother made for him as a child and a classic Cuban combo that is a beautiful representation of the brand’s identity.
The base is rich Brazilian guava with cheesecake and swirls of guava marmalade to amplify the sweet fruit flavor; “Abuela’s Flan,” inspired by his grandmother’s caramel heavy and chewy signature dessert; and “Kooki Monster,” a fun blue vanilla flavor concoction loaded with chewy, homemade chocolate chip cookies and tons of Oreos for the ultimate comfort treat. One taste, and you’ll realize why it’s the shop’s best selling flavor.
