Many tables of books of all types are displayed beneath the overhang at Publix Supermarket.

The book sale that takes place each year in Palmetto Bay to benefit the library system of Brandeis University will return on Mar. 28 and 29. As before, it will be located in front of the Publix Supermarket on S. Dixie Highway at SW 146thg Street and will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This is the first time it will be for two days instead of just one, so we’re hoping it will give more people a chance to visit and that we’ll sell even more books,” said Linda Zahler, one of the event organizers.

Books donated for the fundraiser are generally hardcovers and trade paperbacks, most worth $25 or more. There are books in all fiction and non-fiction categories, including cookbooks, all areas of history, antiques, music, gardens and flowers, coffee table books and more. They all are in excellent condition. Fiction books are priced at just $2 each, the non-fiction books are $2 and up, and there are children’s books for $1.

The proceeds will benefit Brandeis University Libraries, Scholarships and Research and the event was organized by a local chapter of Brandeis National Committee. The Brandeis University National Women’s Committee is the largest “friends of a library” group in the world with 48,000 members nationwide.

“We started doing the annual sale in South Miami with mostly paperbacks,” Zahler said. “I think the book sale is so popular because all of the used books are sold to raise money to buy new books for the library. Publix has been hosting the book sale for years now and we’re grateful for their help.”
