The City of Fort Lauderdale and SunTex Marinas break ground on the new Las Olas Marina on May 5, 2022, as part of a public/private partnership.

It won’t be long before the tall mounds of dirt, cranes and bull dozers at the Las Olas Marina will be replaced by mega yachts that are 88-feet in length, at a minimum.

The new marina will redefine the Fort Lauderdale waterfront with fine dining, boutique retail, state-of-the-art infrastructure improvements, and a lush, pedestrian-friendly landscape. Plans are also in place for the location to serve as an extended area for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

“The redevelopment of the Las Olas Marina will be a boon for our city as the yachting capital of the world. We will be able to welcome more yachts and larger yachts. More jobs will be created and millions of dollars will be poured back into our city. It’s going to be a destination for our neighbors and visitors to walk around, get a bite and admire all the beautiful views around us,” said Mayor Dean Trantalis.

The $70 million project will be built and paid for by SunTex Marinas and is estimated to take 24 months to complete.

Plans for the new Las Olas Marina include:

      • 7,000 linear feet of dockage
      • a three-story 31,000-square-foot marine services building with a casual restaurant, ship store, office space, a gym, a swimming pool, and an outdoor patio
      • a two-story 15,000-square-foot upscale waterfront restaurant with outdoor dining area
      • a new pump station to improve the sanitary flow throughout Fort Lauderdale beach for decades to come

“This mega-yacht marina will be transformative for District 2 and the entire City. It has been a long time in the making and I am proud to have opposed every massive development proposal on this site in the past 20 years. This enabled us to have a beautifully landscaped marina with restaurants that will tie into the rest of the Las Olas corridor improvements,” said District 2 Commissioner Steven Glassman.

Additionally, the project will create 650+ jobs during construction and 1,110 full-time equivalent jobs. It is also expected to generate an economic impact of $221 million each year, $6 million in annual state local tax revenue, and $446,000 in annual real estate property tax revenue.

Watch the video below to see how the new Las Olas Marina will take shape!
