Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services) has been awarded a $55,000 grant from the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to support an increase of veterinary care.
The grant will help Animal Services fund essential lifesaving services such as veterinary care, spay and neuter services, and pet retention, which are crucial resources to Animal Services’ operations.
“Animal Services is incredibly grateful for the generous support from the ASPCA,” said Annette Jose, director of Miami-Dade Animal Services. “This funding will allow us to expand our veterinary services, including spay and neuter surgeries, which are critical in reducing pet overpopulation and ensuring the health of the animals in our care.
“We are committed to keeping pets in their homes, reuniting lost pets with their owners, and providing lifesaving medical care when it’s needed most,” Jose added.
The grant funds will be used to support essential services that directly impact the well-being of animals in Miami-Dade County. Specifically, the funding will be allocated toward contractual services for veterinary care, ensuring that animals receive the medical attention they need. Spay and neuter services also will be a key focus, helping to reduce the pet overpopulation.
Additionally, the grant will provide pet owner assistance through the Pet Retention Program. Animal Services is committed to saving the lives of abandoned animals in its care, protect animals from cruelty, reunite lost pets with their owners, protect people and pets in the community from health-related issues and ensure the public’s safety.
“ASPCA grant funds are intended to help alleviate the many challenges shelters are currently experiencing by providing them with the resources, staffing, or services they need to care for the animals and pet owners in their communities,” said Christa Chadwick, vice president of shelter services at the ASPCA.
“Through our grant funding, along with our extensive shelter partnerships and lifesaving initiatives, the ASPCA is working in and with communities to build strong programs that support vulnerable animals,” Chadwick continued. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact Miami-Dade County Animal Services continues to make in their community.”
