Today, Miami-Dade County native, former MDCPS classroom teacher, and education technology entrepreneur Max Tuchman announced her candidacy for Miami-Dade County School Board, District 7. A product of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and the first in her family to graduate from college, Tuchman is running to bring students, parents, and educators together to shape the future of our education system and ensure every child can achieve the American Dream.
Tuchman, who opened her campaign account last month, was overwhelmed by the generous community support that allowed her to raise an impressive $74,000 in her first three weeks. The only other candidate to enter the race for this seat filed 5 months ago and has raised $200.
“I am excited to launch my campaign for School Board and give back to the community that made me who I am today,” said Max Tuchman. “Over the next few months, I will continue to spend time with parents and educators so that together we can create a plan for more investments in early childhood education, deeper parental involvement in our schools, and ensure that our kids are safe while developing the skills they need for the jobs of tomorrow.”
Tuchman is the Co-Founder of Miami-based tech company Caribu, an award-winning startup focused on creating virtual storytime for children and their families, which she sold to multinational toy brand, Mattel. A first-generation American and daughter of Cuban exiles, Max helped bring economic growth to Miami by headquartering her company in her hometown.
“I was born and raised in this community, and I understand the power of a high-quality public education because it is at the core of my success,” said Max Tuchman. “Our public schools made it possible for me to seize the opportunities so many people dream of for their children, and I am ready to get to work for the families of District 7.”
Tuchman has worked in nearly every level of education — as a public school teacher, Executive Director of Teach For America, Miami-Dade, manager of education projects for both the Mayor of New York City and the Chancellor of DC Public Schools, and as an advisor on education policy as a White House Fellow at the U.S. Treasury Department.
A former student government president of New College of Florida where she earned her undergraduate degree, Max holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a second Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
