Charismatic cellist Thomas Mesa, a 2025 recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, brings his musical power and passion back to Miami, his hometown, for a free concert with the Alhambra Orchestra, led by artistic director Daniel Andai, on May 3. 7:30 p.m., at the FIU Wertheim Performing Arts Center, 10910 SW 17 St.
Mesa will perform the dramatic Cello Concerto by Antonin Dvorak and the program will conclude with a full-orchestra performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, a work so thrilling that it often accompanies outdoor fireworks.
Bring your family and friends for this rare chance to enjoy the height of Romantic-era orchestral splendor for free. Also enjoy a brief special appearance by the talented strings ensemble from Whispering Pines Elementary. The Alhambra Orchestra is Miami’s community orchestra, presenting live classical performances in affordable, convenient venues.
The concert is free, no tickets or reservations needed. For questions or to request special accommodations, contact Alhambra Orchestra at 305-668-9260 or send email to music@alhambraorchestra.org.
