Miami-Dade School Board vice chair Monica Colucci led a discussion on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education during the District 8 town hall meeting on Feb. 27 at Felix Varela Senior High School.

Joined by Miami-Dade County Public Schools assistant superintendent Daniel M. Mateo and Gregory M. Reis, an associate teaching professor from Florida International University, together they addressed the potential benefits and challenges of integrating AI into the classroom.

“As we navigate the evolving landscape of education, it is crucial that we equip our students with not only the knowledge but also the critical thinking skills necessary to thrive in a digital world,” Colucci said.

During the town hall meeting, Vice Chair Colucci also celebrated the achievements of District 8 students for their academic excellence and outstanding citizenship.

“Today, we honor not just the achievements of our students in the classroom but also their commitment to being positive role models in our community,” Colucci said.
