I’m going to start by telling you that I really like Kia’s K5 line.
So rather than comparing it to another car, I’m going to tell you why the EX is my favorite of the bunch.
Starting at about $29,000, the Kia K5 EX delivers a very healthy 180 horsepower with 195 pounds/feet of torque. That power comes from a 1.6-liter turbo charged engine that runs on four valves per cylinder. So you get great punch for your money on this top of the line mid-size sedan.
You have the option of getting 4-wheel drive or you can stick with the standard front wheel drive. For me it’s 4-wheel all the way.
The mileage on the K5 EX is very good, giving you 27 miles per gallon in the city and 37 on the highway, which is phenomenal.
So let’s get to one of the things that always gets my engine revving – the exterior design. After all, the look of the car is just as important as the feel.
The styling of this sedan is very attractive, featuring a shark-tooth grille. To make it stand out even more, its got z-shaped taillights that make the LED headlamps pop.
I love the way the 18-inch tires are engineered to wrap closely to the shell of the car, with machined grey allow wheels that match the grille.
Climbing into the cabin, you get a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade, which is both convenient and seamless. It makes it feel like every day is sunny with blue skys in the K5. But just in case it gets a little chilly, the EX comes with both ventilated and heated seats, as well as a heated steering wheel.
The stitching on the inside is classy and everywhere, running along the edges of the leatherette seats, the doors and the steering wheel. It ties the whole interior together nicely.
You also have a choice between the standard 8-inch touchscreen or the bigger 10-inch screen, but with the larger screen you don’t get a wireless connection. You can plug your phone in to your infotainment system, so there’s that.
Speaking of your phone, you get a wireless charging station in the center console and a total of three USB connectors between the center and dash console.
The interior is also accented with a type of wood that gives it a weighty feel that speaks to the importance I place on attention to detail.
All in all, this is a mid-size sedan with heart, styling and pizzazz, all of which make this one of the best, most inspired cars on the market.
