$1.9 million dollars has been awarded to The Motivational Edge to support Youth Development services through its wellness, academic, music and arts programs, drop-in safe site, and additional wrap-around services, helping ensure students are placed on a path to successful lives.

The Children’s Trust Board of Directors on Apr. 17 approved funding recommendations for its Youth Development initiative, its largest investment area. More than 140 programs, including The Motivational Edge, were selected during a competitive Request for Proposals and review process. These funds will help directly support children and families through after-school and summer programming in Miami-Dade County.

“The Children’s Trust is proud to invest in an extensive network of youth development providers that offer an array of dynamic afterschool and summer programming to keep our youth learning, active, and engaged in the world around them,” said James R. Haj, president and CEO of The Children’s Trust. “We look forward to partnering with these organizations to ensure our children have every chance to succeed and their parents know their kids are cared for while at work.”

Trust-funded Youth Development providers offer high-quality programming for children and youth in kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as young adults involved in the child welfare or juvenile justice systems and/or living with disabilities. The Trust is investing over $76 million to allow for the increased cost of programming as well as expanding programming to existing and new providers.

“This particular investment of $1.9 million into The Motivational Edge will help better serve the youth and families of Allapattah and surrounding areas, hire more staff, and ultimately set us up for success for the next 15 years,” said Ian Welsch, founder and CEO. “I feel honored and privileged that The Motivational Edge earned such a worthy and prestigious investment from The Children’s Trust, which speaks to the nature and success of our programs. The total investment being distributed throughout the next several years will make a huge impact in our agency and the families we serve. We look forward to reporting our impact and success stories.”
