The Florida Department of Health’s Tobacco Free Florida program offers free tools and services to all Floridians to help smokers quit.
Group Quit is one of the many quit services available. Group Quit sessions are led by trained specialist, providing support and guidance to help you quit.
Upon completion of the sessions, participants may be eligible to receive quit aids, including gum, patches or lozenges that help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Counseling and medication are both effective to help you quit smoking and using them together is more effective than using either one alone.
It is known that quitting smoking is difficult, but smokers can and do quit. In fact, today there are more former smokers than current smokers in Florida.
Quitting tobacco has many health and financial benefits. Quitting smoking benefits your health almost immediately. It can add up to 10 years to your life expectancy and not only is it good for your health, but it is also good for your wallet. One year after quitting smoking, a former pack-a-day smoker can save more than $2,200, based on today’s prices. Over five years, this adds up to a savings of over $11,000.
