DD@SoBe is a two-week summer program that provides an intense and enjoyable introduction to architecture and the related disciplines of landscape and interior architecture. Organized by Florida International University’s College of Architecture + the Arts, the program takes advantage of the College’s Miami Beach Urban Studios on Lincoln Road to introduce students to area’s rich cultural context and to use the city as a laboratory in which to study the relationships between design and the built environment. Participants spend a considerable portion of each day working on design projects, and engage in group discussions with faculty from FIU’s Department of Architecture. Guest lectures by prominent local practitioners and visits to offices and museums enhance the learning experience, and guided tours of significant local architecture and urban design projects demonstrate the impact of design on our world.
While this program is designed for students of all ages – ranging from high school students to mid-career professionals – it is of great benefit to those who plan to prepare a portfolio for admission to a professional program.
DD@SoBe will run Monday, June 9 through Friday, June 20, 2014. The program limited to 30 participants.
Applications for the program are due April 21, and are available online at http://carta.fiu.edu/architecture/academics/degree-programs/discover-design/. Please contact Professor David Rifkind at david.rifkind@fiu.edu for more details.
