South Beach is bracing itself for the new Shelborne South Beach – a multi-million dollar renovation that will transform this famous Art Deco landmark as it turns 70 years old. The newly completed guest lobby just opened and the lobby sushi bar Zama is set to open next month offering Beach Bento Boxes to go.
The Shelborne’s glamorous history is tightly woven in the fabric of Miami Beach, and this Art Deco gem continues to reinvent itself without departing from its original splendor and old world charm. The hotel remains a part of the family lineage as Keith Menin oversees the renovation process. Keith plans on making the new Shelborne as appealing to locals as it will be to visitors. The best hotels reflect the local culture and embrace the area’s ethos, thus Keith wants to make the Shelborne the perfect place to start a day at the beach or a night on the town.
By the end of summer The Shelborne will debut its signature new restaurant, Vesper, that will feature a hidden private dining room and new American Menu. Chef Mario Tolentino, winner of Food Network’s Chopped, will create a fresh and innovative menu inspired by youthful trends.
A dramatic new entrance will feature an Art Deco Porte Cochere that will recreate the rings of light on the overhang that previously greeted guests 70 years ago. Now LED technology will allow the lights to pulsate and change colors.
An infinity pool with an expanded beauty deck will engage the Shelborne’s guests. The upper sun deck with a topless sunbathing area is connected by a cat walk for dramatic entrances, and includes a large communal rainbow outdoor shower.
The new Shelborne South Beach will be the first ocean front hotel in South Beach to completely open and clear the space between the pool and the beach creating stunning unobstructed views. Hotels in the 1940s popularized this feature, however in the last 10 years the beach front hotels created large hedges and fences behind their pools. The open space will allow the public to easily access the new pool side snack bar.
“Lucy”s Cantina Royale” will offer cheap chic food & drinks for hungry locals and visitors.
