The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM), Artistic Director Eriberto Jimenez, founded in 2007 with the mission to promote and preserve the Classical Ballet Repertoire, technique and style exemplified by the famed Cuban School of Ballet, invites you to the performance of “Eternal Love”, Saturday, February 22 / 8:00 pm. at the Fillmore Miami Beach Jackie Gleason Theater celebrating Valentines Day and lovers everywhere. A great gift for someone special.
Love has always been the inspiration for many of the ballet stories. In the first half of the 19th century a current of romantic thoughts emerge in literature and the arts, exalting the ideals of purity and innocence. The Ballet is impregnated with a magical atmosphere where eternal and unrequited love, the moon, death, the realm of the spirit and the mysteries of nature predominate, thus the so-called “White Ballets” emerge.
In this classic performance the CCBM will highlight pieces from famous romantic 19th Century “White Ballets” featuring Cuban Principal Dancers, CCBM Corp de Ballet with beautiful Costumes and scenery, including:
“Les Sylphides”, is a short non-narrative Romantic Ballet Blanc, originally choreographed by Mikhail Fokine to music by Frederick Chopin, highlights a young man walking at night who encounters a group of white sylphs (slender young women that are spirits of the air) dancing in the moonlight.
“Giselle”, (second act pas de deux) choreographed by Jules Perrot and Jean Corelli with music by Adolphe Adam, premiered in 1841and is considered a masterwork in the classical ballet performance canon. The ghost-filled ballet tells the tragic, romantic story of a beautiful young peasant girl who falls in love with the disguised nobleman Albrecht. When the ruse is revealed, the fragile Giselle dies of heartbreak, and Albrecht must face the otherworldly consequences of his careless seduction. The Wilis, spirits of maidens who died after being betrayed by their lovers, and take revenge in the night by dancing men to death by exhaustion, summon Giselle from her grave and target her lover for her death, but Giselle’s great love frees him from their grasp.
“Swan Lake”, (Second act pas de deux) choreographed by Marius Petipa to music by Tchaikovsky, tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. The spell can only be broken if someone who has never loved before swears an oath of undying love and promises to marry her. On the second act pas de deux, the Prince declares his love to Odette and promises to be loyal forever.
“La Bayadere”, a ballet that takes place in Royal India originally in four acts and seven tableaux by French choreographer Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus, tells the story of the Bayadère, and the temple dancer Nikiya in love with the warrior Solor, who have sworn eternal fidelity to one another which sadly cannot be achieved in life, and their souls as shades are reunited in death and eternal love.
