—Students will gain a better understanding of city government —
In celebration of Women’s History Month, the City of Miami Beach is inviting local high school seniors to shadow women in leadership roles during one of the city’s busiest times of the year.
“Giving students the opportunity to spend a day alongside proven leaders highlights the value of mentorship,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “Experiences like these open doors, broaden perspectives and inspire the next generation to pursue leadership roles in any field they choose.”
The city’s inaugural Shadowing Week, scheduled for five days beginning Monday, March 23, is open to 12th grade girls attending any public, private or charter school in Miami Beach or any Miami Beach resident in the 12th grade. Each participant will spend one full day — from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — accompanying a senior woman leader to meetings, events and other key activities.
“We want these young women to envision opportunities they may not have considered before,” said Miami Beach Vice Mayor Monica Matteo-Salinas. “Shadowing Week is an invitation to dream boldly and see themselves in roles of influence, leadership, and impact.”
The program aims to empower young women by offering a close-up look at local government, fostering connections with city leaders, and highlighting pathways to future leadership roles.
Applications for Shadowing Week have been extended through Monday, March 16. Click here to submit an application.
Miami Beach is also celebrating Women’s History Month by honoring 10 exemplary women throughout the month of March at the city’s annual outdoor exhibit in Lummus Park. This year’s honorees include State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, REEFLINE founder Ximena Caminos, jazz singer Nicole Henry among others.
