Gale S. Nelson, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, today announced the appointment of board co-chairs Tina van der Ven and Allan Prindle along with a new slate of officers for 2022-2023.
Prindle is President and CEO of Power Financial Credit Union. van der Ven, who is entering the second year of her two-year term as board co-chair, is Chief Strategy Officer of NewStar Media.
With recent studies showing that youth mentoring is in greater need today than in recent history, the new leadership plans to prioritize elevating community-wide awareness and access to the nonprofit organization’s services while continuing to innovate ways to increase mentoring, engagement and fundraising. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami is noted as the leading youth-mentoring organization. Most recently, the Miami chapter was recognized at the BBBS America National Conference, where it was distinguished with the nation’s only “Pinnacle Award” for 2022 as well as the “Irvin F. Westheimer Award for Visionary Leadership.”
“The selection of our leadership is a testament to our ongoing commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion at all levels of our organization,” Nelson said. “Aligning our organization with the best and brightest talent is essential in meeting the strategic goals of this high-performing board. “Allan and Tina are a powerful team which leads with love, vision, and a focus on what matters most: meeting the needs of our Littles and their families.”

Saslaw, P.A); and Deb Tyler (DM Wealth Management).

About van der Ven
van der Ven, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of NewStar Media, has dedicated her 20-plus year corporate marketing career to elevating branding and business growth for global professional-services firms, leading corporations, and health care institutions. Before co-founding NewStar Media, she led regional marketing at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, worked as a healthcare consultant with Ernst & Young and Enzyme, Inc., and as a clinical researcher at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Throughout her 16-year tenure with the nonprofit, van der Ven has served in a multitude of board leadership and fundraising roles, including as co-chair of Impact Circle, as a “Big Sister,” and as a gala and marketing committee co-chair.
“As a former Big Sister and someone who has been keenly involved in a multitude of BBBS community and mentoring programs and fundraising events, I am grateful to have experienced the power of mentoring in our community,” van der Ven said. “I am eager to embark on my second year as co-chair, with the goal of further reducing the wait list of youths waiting to be matched with adult mentors.”
