Paddle your boat… We hear that the 2014 Mangrove Kayak Adventure program in Palmetto Bay, an eco-tour via kayak operated by Nature Postings, Inc., is coming to an end. The last outing is scheduled for November 30. Also in Palmetto Bay… The 5th Annual DARE Arts & Crafts Fair is Nov. 15 at Coral Reef Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 80 vendor booths will sell everything from unique jewelry and artwork to clothing, food, and cool drinks. Village Police host the event to boost funding of its Drug Abuse Resistance Education program for kids. Don’t miss the “Cruise In” antique-car show. The park is located at 7895 SW 152nd Street in Palmetto Bay.
Women, take note: The Florida Commission on the Status of Women is hosting and supporting “open and informational conversations with women and families throughout Florida.” On Wednesday, November 19, a meeting will be held at Palmetto Bay Branch Library in the Feller Community Room, 2nd Floor from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The library is located at 17641 Old Cutler Road. Don’t mark this on your calendar…? We hear that the Cutler Bay November 19 Regular Town Council Meeting has been cancelled, so don’t plan on attending! However, the December Town Council Meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 10.
Take the bus…please. The Town of Cutler Bay is having a bus party on Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and you’re invited to attend. Why? The town is celebrating the expansion of services for the town’s circulator bus to include Saturdays, something that should help residents a lot. Art alert… If you want to get a head start on Art Basel and Miami Art Week, multimedia artist and film director Van Alpert has returned to his hometown Miami for his first solo exhibition titled BLACK I, an exhibition of his work in Wynwood. Working with materials from set production and using sharp black lines on canvas, Alpert “innovatively transforms graffiti into fine art, turning what some film sets regard as temporary objects into lasting artful treasures.” In his multimedia pieces, he merges old Hollywood images with contemporary stylistic methods. His emphasis is on fostering a connection to the past while relating to the present moment. The exhibition is located in Wynwood at 297 NW 26 Street, Miami, now through November 17, so better hurry.
