Miami-Dade Transit recently placed into service the first eight of 24 state-of-the art hybrid-articulated buses that will enhance service on routes 34 and 38 — two of the most widely used bus routes in Miami- Dade County.
The 60-foot buses, which look like trains rolling down the dedicated lanes of the South Miami-Dade Busway, are equipped with Wi-Fi modems, and can carry up to 100 passengers. Regular 40-foot buses can carry approximately 60 passengers.
“Miami-Dade County is proud to provide these new, higher capacity vehicles on some of our most popular routes,” said Alice Bravo, Miami-Dade Transit director. “These vehicles will help us improve the service we provide for our patrons and improve the reliability of our transit system.”
Routes 34 and 38 often operate at capacity, with average weekday boardings of more than 8,600, according to the latest published ridership report.
The 24 articulated buses placed on routes 34 and 38 are part of 43 new hybrid-articulated buses that the county has purchased to provide service along some of the county’s most congested corridors, like the Busway, which runs parallel to the heavily used US1 in south Miami-Dade County. The remaining buses will service the Biscayne Boulevard and 27th Avenue corridors.
