Finally, how can you get any more romantic than Miami Lyric Opera’s concert performance of La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi on Saturday, February 15 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $40 plus service fee. Alexander Dumas’ play La Dame aux Camelias (The Lady of the Camellias) was inspired by the life of Marie Duplessi a beautiful, young courtesan in 19th Century Paris, who was only 23 when she died of tuberculosis. Verdi, in turn, was inspired by Dumas’s play when he composed La Traviata (The Fallen Woman). And both these works were the inspiration for the motion picture, Pretty Woman. Violetta, La Traviata’s heroine, is considered to be the most sublime operatic character ever written, captivating audiences for more than 150 years. Verdi’s glorious music and Violetta’s moving demise make this opera one of the most compelling experiences of our lives.
