Sandrell Rivers Theater honors Miami-Dade School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-MindingallThe annual Chief Sandrell Rivers Day Celebration presents Miami-Dade School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall with the 2023 Chief Sandrell Rivers Humanitarian Award on Saturday, August 12th.

Dr. Bendross-Mindingall’s impactful career as a former classroom teacher, principal, and adult education administrator, combined with her current role as the dynamic Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board Member in District 2, exemplifies her unwavering commitment to education and empowering the community.

Dr. Bendross-Mindingall has dedicated her life to opening doors of opportunity for countless students, teachers, and parents. Her innovative programs have transformed lives, offering solutions to challenges that once seemed insurmountable. Notably, she created the groundbreaking “Positive African American Role Models” (PAARM) mentorship program, the first of its kind in Florida. PAARM has had a profound impact on student attendance, reading abilities, and the establishment of economic empowerment initiatives.

With exceptional achievements and unwavering dedication, Dr. Bendross-Mindingall embodies the spirit and values exemplified by Chief Sandrell Rivers. She is a tireless advocate for positive change, spearheading initiatives that foster community education, parent involvement, and mentorship. Dr. Bendross-Mindingall’s efforts have garnered accolades, including the recent Trailblazer Award at the Power & Influence Luncheon “A World Without Violence and Crime” and the upcoming prestigious President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
