The Police Department recently made two arrests related to an armed robbery in the Village. Police arrested Argenis Serrano Angulo, date of birth 09/13/1991 on August 8, and Jhonnel Uriel Pernalete, date of birth 08/20/1999 on August 25. Both men were charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and grand theft.
The crime occurred on July 17, at approximately 12:09 a.m. in the 6800 block of Southwest 106 Street in Pinecrest. The investigation revealed that the suspects followed a family home after dinner from the Shops at Merrick Park. Once the family arrived at their driveway, the suspects approached the family as they exited their car.
Angulo and Pernalete pointed handguns at the family and demanded their luxury watches, a designer purse, and cellular phones. Both men were wearing face masks and hoodies, a third man – a suspected lookout, is believed to have fled the state. Detectives are working with the proper authorities to arrest him.
The Numbers
The majority of non-domestic related violent crime in the Village occurs in the commercial district, yet residential areas are targeted due to the perceived wealth and high-value property in Pinecrest. Being situationally aware is of upmost importance nationwide and although the Village is a safe community, it is occasionally targeted.
The average number of non-domestic related violent crimes over past four years to date is eight per year, with the majority occurring in the commercial areas of the Village.
So far in 2022, there have been three non-domestic related violent crimes in residential areas of Pinecrest and three in commercial areas. The prior year (2021), there were five in residential areas versus eight in commercial areas. It can be said that violent crime is down from last year, but crime is crime to the person whose safety was violated.
Recent Arrest
The latest non-domestic related violent crime happened during the early morning hours of September 5, when a man who was travelling in an Uber ride to South Miami from Cutler Bay attacked the driver while they were in the 9600 block of 67 Avenue – a residential area. Police immediately arrived on the scene and arrested and charged the man with attempted kidnapping, attempted sexual battery, and strongarm robbery.

Be situationally aware. Make sure that when you are shopping or in a parking area, that there is no one following you. Knowledge, prevention, and a well-informed community that has an open dialogue with police is a powerful community. Criminals want to get as much as possible as easy as possible.
Let’s work together to get the word out that the Village is strong and criminals have no place in Pinecrest. They will be caught.
