In order to commemorate one of the most influential civil rights leaders of our time on the anniversary of his death, Walmart associates served meals to residents of Chapman Partnership’s South Center in Homestead.
The 20 participants also announced a $1,000 grant for Chapman Partnership to support the organization’s programs that help provide emergency housing, meals, healthcare and job training and placement needs.
Participants included Walmart associates, volunteers as well as representatives from Rise Up 4 Change Inc., a charity organization committed to raising awareness about protecting children from violence and providing disadvantaged local youth with skills and services they need to succeed.
On top of meals served at the event, personal care kits were distributed to residents currently staying at Chapman Partnership’s South Center.
This event was part of Walmart’s national service effort to pay tribute to Dr. King’s life and legacy. One Walmart in each state was selected to have an “Act of Service Day.” As always, Walmart continues to search for opportunities within local communities to help support groups making a positive impact.
