Gringo Bingo for Coral Gables Rotary’s veterans’ programs, sponsored and hosted by Clutch Burger on Giralda Plaza in the Gables, was sold out. The surprise appearance by DJ Germaine, who donated his time, was a bonus with his music being enjoyed by guests as well as patrons of neighboring restaurants. Most all the Giralda Plaza restaurants donated prizes for this first time event that Clutch Burger will continue every month for different charities. The ever entertaining Steven Bradley, of Clutch, ran the bingo games interacting beautifully with the crowd. A chance at the Doral Place’s Kings Bowl party for 20 valued at $1,800 was won by RCCG President Susan Fornaris who was ecstatic.
More than $1,600 was raised at this 2 hour affair to support Coral Gables Rotary’s monthly bingo games for veterans at the VA Hospital and other veterans programs. Yolanda Woodbridge, who chairs the committee for the Rotary Club, was especially grateful for the support of Clutch Burger owners Ana and Steven Bradley and the many retailers who donated items for prizes that night for the affair. Shout out to the Coral Gables Woman’s Club who came to the event with a group of 18 people to lend their support for RCCG whose Foundation supports the Woman’s Club’s free children’s dental clinic.. Among the many Rotarians and CGWC members attending were Dr. Susan and Sam Fornaris, Sally Baumgartner and Larry Goodman, Jon and Judy Arthur, Valerie Valenzuela, Elizabeth and Hernando Valenzuela, Yvonne Llauro, Claudia Miro, Kim Davison, Barbara Lapsley, Nancy Desmangles, Kelly Garces, Aaron Glasser, Chef Chris Valdes, Arely Ruiz, and Nico Eterovic, to mention a few.
Among the many things to do this coming weekend, check out an free event at the Coral Gables Museum on March 16, 8 p.m. There will be a performance of “aka Hamlet” by the theatre-for-social-change company, What If Works, established by Phillip Church in Miami. What if Works has collaborated with GableStage on its 2019 schools tour. This production is currently visiting schools throughout Miami Dade County during the month of March and this one performance at the Museum is free to the general public. It will be a shortened version looking at Shakespeare aka “Hamlet” during which the audience is given a perspective of Hamlet from the playwright’s perspective. The production also focuses on Hamlet’s relationship with Ophelia and Gertrude. This is one of so many cultural opportunities the Coral Gables Museum provides to all the residents and visitors in our South Florida community.
Finally, kudos to the Rotary Club of South Miami for yet another amazing Art Show. It was a perfect weekend for this outdoor event along Sunset. Kudos also for another fun-filled Sunday that same weekend for Coral Gables Rotary’s Chili Cook Off. Lots of work by clubs and the many volunteers for both events that serve to support charitable causes and scholarships in our community.
Until next time, keep making each day count.
