My husband just had a pacemaker placed to help him regulate his heart function. Does he have to worry about going to the dentist?

The use of modern pacemakers and defibrillators is very common today. We used to be worried about the effects of dental devices used on these patients. But now research has shown that the use of electronic devices such as ultrasonic scalers used by the hygienist, ultrasonic cleaners, battery operated curing lights, electric pulp testers, and even electric toothbrushes have no effect on the cardiac devices. Your husband can go to his dentist with no concern regarding messing up his pacemaker.

My teenage son loves soda and is constantly drinking them. I know it’s supposed to be bad for him. What do you say?

Get him to stop before a lot of damage can be done. Tooth decay is only a small portion of the problem. More serious is the possibility of obesity and type 2 diabetes. We’re dealing with more than just soda. There is also high sugar content in fruit juices, sports drinks, flavored milk, energy drinks and any drink with high sugar added. This has turned into a national problem and in time will destroy people’s lives. You need to control his sugar intake. Don’t forget to read labels for sugar content. Not only is there no nutritional value, these high sugar drinks replace other more nutritious options. The manufacturers of high sugar beverages advertise heavily to youngsters, low income families and people who don’t understand the damage a high sugar diet can do. We have a bad problem in this country.

You can always contact me and we can go over dietary and nutritional habits to promote better health.
