On Thursday, February 2, 2017, the City held a Ground Breaking Ceremony to mark the start of the SW 40 Avenue (Barack Obama Boulevard) Complete Street Improvements Project. The event was held at 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of SW 40 Avenue and SW 39 Street. Elected officials, City staff, consultants, and various residents were in attendance.
The SW 40 Avenue Complete Street Improvements project will extend from SW 41 Street (County Line Road) to Pembroke Road and will enhance the corridor by introducing bike lanes on each side of the street, additional drainage, new signage, pavement markings, and traffic calming devices such as a roundabout, speed tables, raised intersections and pedestrian lighting.
Thanks to the support of funding agencies such as the Broward County Housing Finance and Community Development and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection this much-anticipated project is possible. We look forward to sharing the many enhancements of the new and improved corridor with residents in the near future!
