Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade — an affiliate of the leading national nonprofit in affordable housing — received $5,000 from The UPS Foundation.
With the help of over 20 UPS volunteers, the Homestead residence of single senior citizen Maria Gasca was painted and landscaped.
Additionally a Healthy Home Kit containing items such as grab bars, smoke alarms, non-slip bath mats, levered door knobs, among other items was to be installed so she may age in place safely and independently.
Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade’s (RTMD) mission is to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of homeowners in need. RTMD preserves home ownership and revitalizes communities by providing critical home repairs to low-income, elderly, veterans and disabled homeowners at no cost to the homeowner.
The average age of homeowners is 72, average income is $17,450, and average number of years in their home is 32.
“I am greatly appreciative of the work that is being done on my home by UPS and Rebuilding Together Miami. For the first time in a long time, I feel recognized by the community,” Gasca stated.
Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, GA, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues.
In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: volunteerism, diversity, community safety and environment.
UPS employees are dedicated to improving lives and strengthening communities where they live and work, everyday. UPS locations are encouraged to seek out and address critical issues in their local community. Employees are encouraged to join giving programs and are given time off to volunteer. In 2015, UPS and their employees — both active and retired — donated more than $10 million to charitable organizations throughout the country.
“We are very appreciative of The UPS Foundation’s support which enables us to make a difference in the lives of the senior residents of the community,” said Donna Fales, executive director of Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade.
“These are our customers. We love serving the community,” added UPS volunteer John Worrall.
