The City recently completed the Temporary Rent, Utilities and Mortgage Assistance Program (TRU). The TRU program was designed to provide financial assistance to West Park residents during the current corona virus pandemic. Funding for the recently completed program was provided through the City’s general revenue fund. A total of thirty-seven (37) West Park families were assisted through the program and a total amount of $24,000 was expended through the program to provide direct rent, utilities and mortgage assistance payments.

The City is now pursuing additional temporary assistance funding through the federal CARES Act. Based on federal reporting requirements, specific requirements will be associated with CARES Act funding. In an effort to maintain compliance, the City’s proposed program will be closely modeled after the temporary assistance program now offered through the Broward County Family Success Center. The City’s upcoming program will assist West Park residents with required rent payments. As part of the proposed program, 75% of a required rent payment will be funded by the City for the first three months. 60% of the required rent payment will be funded by the City for the following three months.

For additional information regarding the upcoming temporary rent assistance program, please contact the City’s Community Development Department directly at (954) 989-2688, Extension 216 or 217.
