The Aventura Police Department recently hosted its third bi-yearly EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) at the Seminole Hard Rock Stadium from November 16-23rd.
This was a major endeavor and its participants included all of the Aventura Police Department’s police force in addition to officers from several other police municipalities including Miami Shores, North Miami and Opa Locka Police Departments. EVOC is one of three police, legal, high liabilities (Firearms, Defensive Tactics & Police Driving.) and the second leading cause for police officer deaths in the line of duty.
In 2013, Sgt. H. Maestre along with Training Officer R. Brizuela developed an EVOC Training course using FDLE 11-B-34 Police Driving Performance requirements. Sgt. Sean Bergert and Training Officer Jason Williams joined their effort to combine a tactical aspect of training. All four police instructors used their field training, police pursuit and tactical experiences and created training provisions that have since been proven to reacquaint police driver perishable skills and have been successfully received by those professionals attending the course.
The course was inspired and developed as a contribution to their police profession as well as to honor police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and perished in the line of duty as a result of vehicular incidents. Aventura Police Chief Bryan Pegues has permanently added this training to the APD’s curriculum of training to contribute to the highest level of police training for Aventura officers and others in the region who wish to attend. This training course was made possible due to the continued support of sponsors, including Marcus Bach-Armas, Senior Legal Counsel for Hard Rock Stadium and to the Hard Rock Stadium ownership for allowing use of their parking lots. All American Barricades Corp.
provided traffic cones necessary for the obstacle course and William Hubbell of William Hubbell Racing for his unwavering support of the Aventura Police Department.
