Hundreds recently gathered at the Aventura Library 5 for the 5th Annual Dirty Socks 5K Run & Walkathon benefitting Ellie’s Army Foundation. Named for Ellie Levy, who passed away at 23 after a long, courageous battle with cystic fibrosis, Ellie’s Army Foundation provides financial assistance, support, and hope to children and young adults battling life-threatening illnesses.

“We are grateful to our amazing community of sponsors, committee members, volunteers, and participants who come out each year to support this event,” said chairperson Cindy Orlinsky who, along with her husband Scott, worked tirelessly with the planning committee to ensure such a successful outcome. Duncan Robinson, Miami Heat player and Ellie’s Army Ambassador, was in attendance along with Aventura Mayor Howard Weinberg and several other local officials. Among the student volunteers present were members of the Ellie’s Army Clubs at Don Soffer High School and Miami Country Day School, as well as students from Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School’s NJROTC program. Families enjoyed food trucks, music, face painting and children’s activities, HCA Florida Aventura Hospital’s Teddy Bear Clinic, and more.

“We are humbled and thrilled to have such an amazing turnout each year,” said Ellie’s mother, Stacey Levy. “I am personally touched by the outpouring of love toward my family and our Ellie. I know that she is smiling down on us all and saying, ‘Well done!’” Proceeds from this event will directly impact families of children with critical illnesses.
