Thanksgiving stands as an important holiday to America that began as a feast in its early days. It’s celebrated as a national holiday dedicated to giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and the preceding year. Though the traditions may have changed in some ways, the idea of enjoying time with family, gathering with friends and giving back, still stand strong.
This year at North Miami Beach Senior High, giving back to the community was on the agenda for the Friends in Training (FIT) program. They received a very generous donation from Ms. Rosalie Schlaen of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney which allowed them to buy turkeys for student’s families, staff members and the NMB community.
Students from six other organizations including Future Business Leaders of America, GEMS, SHAPE, The National Honor Society, Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) and 5000 Role Models helped by participating in a can drive, allowing non-perishable can products to be gathered and assembled for the thanksgiving baskets.
In addition, produce and juices from Farm Share were donated to make the baskets.
