One great meeting for association leaders

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We are a world of abbreviations, aren’t we! Let’s start with AMC –it’s Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce; CHOAB refers to the AMC Condo and Homeowners’ Assoc. for Board Members & Property Managers; and NDJC is the North Dade Justice Center. Now that we have that straight, the AMC’s very successful CHOAB Committee, chaired by the Hon. Dr. Linda Marks, former Aventura Vice Mayor, sponsors quarterly meetings at Ruth’s Chris Steak House Aventura to have companies specific to associations provide valuable information and answer questions from association leaders from throughout South Florida.

“I am so proud of our CHOAB Committee, “ said Dr. Marks, “which has grown exponentially since we created it six years ago. Our mission was to give condo and homeowner association board members and property managers an opportunity to dialogue with their peers from other associations and share best practices. In addition, I love the fact that we offer an opportunity for professional development as participants learn from a wide variety of business and governmental leaders. At our last meeting, we were fortunate to hear from Judge Natalie Moore, North Dade Justice Center, who eloquently spoke about the legal system, lawyers and lawsuits. Our speakers are selected from the world of business, finance, safety and security. Topics have included everything from resident needs, funding, insurance, construction, legislative updates and even ways to navigate through health emergencies. And during the luncheon, individuals such as Florida Senator Jason Pizzo, State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, Hatzalah leaders Andre Roitman and Fire Chief Jeff Levy and our own Aventura Police Chief Michael Bentolila have provided wonderful and timely information to the entire group.”

City of Aventura leaders are always in attendance, including Mayor Howard S. Weinberg, Esq., Vice Mayor Rachel Friedland, Commissioners Amit Bloom, Cliff Ain, Cindy Orlinsky, Paul Kruss and Gustavo Blachman, as well as City Manager Bryan Pegues, Police Chief Michael Bentolila, Deputy Chief Chris Chastain and former Aventura Commissioner Billy Joel. Mayor Weinberg said, “As the flagship condominium municipality in the State of Florida, my administration is committed to ensuring that Aventura is always on the leading edge of best practices, new legislation, and multi-family lifestyle advocacy.”

Guest speakers for the most recent meeting were Gary Pyott, Senior VP of Campbell Property Management and AMC Chairman of the Board, with his topic of “Navigating the World of Reserves”; Alec Sanchez, Vice President of Brown & Brown Insurance on “New Insurance Landscape….Ready to Save?”; Marcelo Martinez, Region Vice President of Hotwire Communications on “Security Cameras– Delicate Balance Between Privacy and Safety” and William Plaza, Founder & CEO of Plaza and Associates on “Penny Wise and Pound Foolish– The Case for Hiring an Owner’s Rep”. The feedback from attendees is always excellent on the topics and valuable information learned, but this last meeting was exceptional…….”The best CHOAB meeting yet!”, and “I learned so much today—just great information and contacts!” were among the flood of positive comments received.
