Over three decades of accomplishment with the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It was 1988, and the city we now know as Aventura was 785 acres of swampland. But there were visionaries…the late Harry Soffer and his son Don Soffer and George Berlin (aka Gentleman George) who saw the potential of building a beautiful enclave that would become a destination location.

In 1989, the initial developers of Aventura, including Turnberry, Coscan Florida, Mystic Point and Williams Island created the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce (AMC) to ensure that Aventura would become a destination location as architect Robert Swedroe was designing the new skyline of Aventura. International celebrities such as Sophia Loren, the BeeGees and Liza Minnelli and events such as Cirque du Soleil and the Royal Polo were brought in to help promote Aventura while raising funds for charities. Aventura was gaining international recognition and the AMC coninued to grow.

Collaborating with the community’s major residential organization, the Joint Council of Aventura, the AMC created a self-taxing district to handle everything from security, zoning, transportation and signage to beautification in addition to promotion of the new community while holding great meetings and events for their business members.

When the City of Aventura incorporated in 1996, it was a happy day for the AMC as they knew the City would now handle the myriad of operations of the new city so AMC could focus on running their organization. Since 1996, the AMC has worked closely with the City of Aventura and its leadership teams over the years, and continues to have a strong working relationship with Aventura’s elected and appointed officials.

In it’s 36 year history, the AMC has created events which have donated over $1.6million to charities and scholarships. AMC members know that their special events, like their annual YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE or their amazing meetings like their annual Student-Run Breakfast Meeting, Salute to Law Enforcement, Recognition of Fire Rescue, Wounded Warriors Project Soldier Ride, NFL Alumni who give back to their communities, or Chairman’s Roundtable luncheons with incredible guest speakers such Florida Supreme Court Justice Renatha Francis or the VIP visit to Romero BRITTO’s “Britto Palace” all serve to provide amemorable and valuable experiences. Great networking is at the core of the AMC’s meeting and events, and members doing business with members is the ‘raison d’etre’ for the AMC.

But none of this happens without the support and guidance of the AMC’s Board of Directors who are featured on the photo pages inside this edition. Gary Pyott, Senior VP of Campbell Property Management, Founder & CEO of Association 1st and President of the Aventura Police Foundation, was recently re-elected as AMC Chairman of the Board and said, “ I follow in the footsteps of Cliff Schulman of Weiss Serota and Bob Hollander of Brown & Brown Insurance and George Berlin of Turnberry Associates…they have laid the foundation for this very special Chamber of Commerce and it’s truly my honor and pleasure to lead the AMC and work with our Board of Directors.”
