When El Portal Mayor Omarr C. Nickerson, Ph.D. will be installed as the new President of the Miami -Dade County League of Cities on Saturday, June 7th at the Loew’s Hotel in Coral Gables, you can be assured it will be unforgettable! This historic event marks a significant milestone, not only for the League, but for the entire county as Mayor Nickerson takes the leadership reins as the first Native American Mayor in the county’s history and in the League’s presidential history.
There will be NO SPEECHES during this amazing gala, allowing guests to fully celebrate and embrace a night of cultural expression and unity. Mayor Nickerson said, “Expect to experience elements never before seen at a Miami-Dade County event and to engage with individuals and communities typically underrepresented at such functions. This moment signifies a new era and a new energy of happiness and enlightenment within our county…. a new beginning—one that celebrates historic equality, societal unity and cultural diversity.”
In addition to five powerful dedications to honor our community heroes: Wounded Warriors and the Men and Women of the Armed Forces; Law Enforcement Community; Firefighter Community; First Responder Community; and Dispatcher Community, there will be dazzling international entertainment. Featured entertainers include the authentic Venetian Carnival performers from Venice, Italy; Orchestra Ensemble from the Miami String Haus – Miami Symphony; traditional Folk Dancers from Bangladesh; African Junkanoo Drum Performers; Asian Lion and Dragon Performers from Beijing, China; Professional Tango Dancers; Superstar singer Camie Liz; the Award-winning Norland Senior High School Marching Band and much more.
