University Of Miami Teach Kids About Bicycle Safety, Protected Bike Lanes

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This Friday July 12th, kids at the City of North Miami Library will experience a unique bicycle event that allows them to share the joys of bicycle riding while recognizing the importance of safe streets for road safety.

The “bike rodeo” event, a joint effort between the North Miami Branch Library, University of Miami BikeSafe Program, and North Miami Police Department, will feature a pop-up traffic garden in the parking lot of the library, along with indoor activities on-site. Youths will learn bicycle skill basics with BikeSafe and North Miami Police training staff, ride through pop-up protected bike lane demonstrations, practice good handling techniques, and design their own street with miniature, modular building pieces.

The event will emphasize the importance of “safe streets” – streets with separated and barrier-protected bike lanes, safe crosswalks, and traffic calming measures designed to make streets accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
