Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board names 2026 executive officers

The Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board (HAAB) has announced its 2026 executive officers, who will lead the board’s efforts to preserve Hispanic culture and heritage and strengthen civic and educational engagement across Miami-Dade County.

Karla Fortuny, chair
A lifelong Miami resident and first-generation Cuban American, Fortuny brings a strong commitment to civic engagement and public service. Her work has focused on building effective relationships between communities, local government, and institutions. As chair, she helps ensure the board remains accessible, engaged, and responsive. She represents District 6 Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis.

Karen Diazgranados, first vice chair
Diazgranados is a public service professional with more than two decades of experience in justice reform, community engagement, and innovative government initiatives. Her work includes securing more than $22 million in non-tax revenue through public-private partnerships, leading U.S. Department of Justice crime-prevention grants, and serving as countywide Juvenile Civil Citation Program coordinator, helping divert more than 16,000 youth from the criminal justice system. She represents District 5 Commissioner Vicki Lopez.

Claudia V. Cubillos, second vice chair
Cubillos is the founder of Ms. Claudia’s Village Academy and host of the Candid with Claudia podcast. She made history as the first Hispanic Mayor of El Portal and the first Hispanic female president of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, and was named a 2023 Hispanic Women of Distinction honoree. She brings extensive experience in entrepreneurship, education, media, government, and advocacy. She was appointed by Commissioner Keon Hardemon, District 3.
